Municipal Light Plant

The Heath Municipal Light Plant (MLP) was organized under State law to provide broadband service to Heath. The MLP, managed by Bailey Cole, is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the network. To leave a message for Bailey call 413-337-4934 Ext 064.
In addition to the MLP there is a town elected board to oversee the business side of the broadband network, the Municipal Light Board (MLB).

Organizational Structure

Municipal Light Plant (MLP)
The Heath MLP consists of the town owned network of over 53 miles of fiber optic cable (valued at over 1.5 million dollars), fiber optic connections to nearly 400 residences, and the electronics in the operations hub located in the town center. 
WiredWest Cooperative/Whip City Fiber
The Heath MLP is a member of the WiredWest Cooperative consisting of six western Mass towns. WiredWest sub-contracts Whip City Fiber to provide network operations services, billing services, technical support, and repair services to WiredWest member MLPs.
Municipal Light Board (MLB)
The Heath MLB is  a town elected board that manages the MLP business and ensures that it provides reliable and economically sustainable broadband service to homes, businesses, and municipal buildings in Heath.  See the Municipal Light Board page for MLB minutes and meeting information.
