Recycling

Heath Recycles! Recycling is required and mandatory in the Commonwealth of MA. Please comply with Heath's Waste Ban Plan. Recycle glass, metal, plastic, paper (including cardboard), leaf and yard waste, asphalt pavement, brick, concrete, metal and wood. All are prohibited from trash and must be recycled. Recycling protects the environment and saves money by cutting solid waste management costs. Throw away less and Recycle more. Thank you!

Reuse Shed: The reuse shed is open during transfer station hours. Bring useful kitchen and household items, games, tools, toys and most other usable items in reasonably good condition. If you need something, look in the reuse shed before buying it. See an attendant if you have any questions.

Resurces: Use the links under Recycling Resources for more ways to recycle.

Recycling Resources

All Heath residents can use the Greenfield Transfer Station year-round. The Greenfield transfer station accepts a wide variety of most materials for a fee. For more information view their Materials and Pricing Guide.

To find recycling and disposal locations for a variety of hard-to-manage materials, try Recycle Smart's Beyond the Bin page which lists all facilities that accept specific items.

Recycle Smart MA is a statewide effort to reduce contamination in recycling by educating residents on what to recycle and how to do it. Use the Recyclopedia tool below to search for hundreds of items and find out how to properly manage them. If the tool is slow to respond hit refresh or reload depending on your browser.

Transfer Station Permits

Heath Transfer Station permit stickers are available at the Heath Post Office:

All Users need a new permit every July 1. Hours of the Post Office are 9:30 am - 1:30 pm Monday through Saturday.

FEES: Permit and PAYT (Pay as you Throw) trash bags require stickers. Annual permits cost $15 and stickers $2.00/each and both are available for purchase in June.

INFO SHEET Recycling rules are same as usual. Please do not litter! Recycling is FREE. Please discard your empty cans/bottles, etc. in their proper place at the Transfer Station rather than tossing them on our beautiful roadsides!

Companies Offering Pickup & Disposal of Bulky Items

If you have bulky items (mattresses, upholstered furniture, wood furniture, toilets, sinks, and carpet) that you are unable to transport to the Greenfield Transfer Station, or to the Franklin County Solid Waste Management District's May and October ""Clean Sweep"" events, there are local companies that you can hire to pick up and properly dispose of the items.

You will be contracting directly with the private hauler and will be responsible for paying any pickup and disposal fees that are charged. This is NOT a service provided by the Town of Heath. You are making a private arrangement with a private company to perform a service, and the Town does not control the fees that are charged.

This list is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all companies that may provide this service and does not constitute any endorsement or recommendation by the Town of Heath. Companies are listed alphabetically.
